Cole Comes Home

April 23, 2011 --

Bringing Cole home from the hospital was an exhilarating experience. They're really just letting us take him? We don't have to take some sort of test to prove that we satisfy the minimum acceptable standards for new parents? Wild. Putting him in the car seat for the first time was a team effort (it didn't really need to be a team effort, but it was one nonetheless). Driving him home, I don't think I've ever been so aware of every car surrounding me; my head was definitely on a swivel. When we got him home, we looked at each other and asked, "What do we do now?" I guess we'll figure that one out over the next 18 years or so.

Cole's Arrival

April 21, 2011 --

Today's the day we first met our Cole! Labor started at 12:30 in the morning, as Lindsey thought that her water might have broken (it did). Lindsey and I finally got to the hospital around 9:30 a.m., fully expecting to be told to go home because contractions were neither close enough nor regular, and because the water breaking was a figment of Lindsey's imagination. Cole had other ideas, however. As it turns out, the water had broken, and Cole was ready to make his debut! Labor progressed steadily, and after an hour and a half of active labor, Cole joined our family at 6:54 p.m. Lindsey did wonderfully (I was in total awe of her), and both my wife and son looked amazing. Weighing 7 pounds, 10 ounces, and measuring 20 inches, the newest Diedrich was just perfect.

Welcome, Cole Alexander!

We now have a son, and every modern American boy needs a blog to document his adventures in this crazy world of ours. So here we are.

Cole Alexander Diedrich was born on April 21, 2011, changing our lives forever. As you will see, he is objectively the cutest baby in the world. We love him to pieces already, and we can't wait to see what he's like tomorrow--and every day after that. And with that, here's your first taste of his overpowering cuteness.
