Cake

Since we're having Cole's big birthday party in May when Gramma and Bobpa come to visit, we had just a small celebration on the actual day.  Mommy made a yummy cake.  Yellow with chocolate frosting.  4/21/2013.

Birthday Play

Cole enjoyed a visit to our neighborhood park for a little birthday play time.  He likes climbing up the slide (when it is free of other children, that is) and then descending on his belly.  4/21/2013.

Jumping on Mommy!

One of Cole's favorite games!  4/19/2013.

Two Years Old!

This kid is two!  Because he's practically a grown up now, he's wearing clothes instead of the usual diaper in this picture.  And these days, he usually picks out those clothes himself, which is something he's really into doing.  Most often, his preference is for sweatpants (or "comfy pants," as he calls them), gym shorts, or basketball jerseys.

Cole still loves all sports, and we had the silly idea that he would love sports stickers.  Of course he does, but he also loves putting them everywhere (like on Guido, for example).  His love of sports extends to unexpected places.  For example, a simple jump off a stair onto the landing--which might be his favorite activity--becomes a "basketball jump," unless of course he's jumping onto Mommy or Daddy, in which case it's a "mommy jump" or a "daddy jump."  (Obviously.)  If stair jumping is his favorite activity, climbing is a close second.  Cole loves climbing.  On everything.  That means couches, rocks outside, parents, benches--the whole deal.  He's also been really into rhyming words, including names, so we have fun with "Cole Bole" or even more, "Cole Bole Mole Flole Zole Shmole," which never fails to make him laugh hysterically.  (Which, in turn, makes us laugh hysterically.)

This month, we went to California for a good friend's wedding, so Lindsey's mom Lily and Aunt Linda came to Denver to take care of Cole.  They went on all sorts of adventures and had a great time--maybe too great of a time, since Lily, Linda, and Cole were all saying "Mum's the word" when we asked Cole what he'd been up to all weekend!

In case you were worried about the safety of all of this climbing, there's no need.  Cole's new helmet (a birthday gift from Chelsey) is his new favorite thing, and he wears it even when he's just walking around the house.  That makes some sense, because it's a DINOSAUR helmet, and is thus objectively awesome. We hear a lot of this: "Daddy, can I wear my dinosaur helmet? Daddy, where's my dinosaur helmet? Daddy, I want my dinosaur helmet."  Got it, Cole. Message received.  4/21/2013.

Scooter!

Cole's (early) birthday present from Auntie Chelsey is a scooter!  He's a natural, of course.  (And by natural, we mean he's great at letting us push him while he stands with both feet on the scooter.)  Oh, and Auntie also wisely purchased the sweet dinosaur helmet.  Cole loves it, and Mommy is especially appreciative.  4/19/2013.

Easter Basket

Took a little time, but Cole found his basket.  The matchbox cars were a quick favorite.  3/31/2013.

Kodiak

Kodi wants Cole to come out and play.  3/31/2013.

Peek-a-Boo

Peek-a-boo with Aunt Lori!  Lori was really concerned when she couldn't find Cole!  3/31/2013.

Easter

We had the pleasure of celebrating Easter with the Kramer family - Lori, Phil, Danielle and Andrea (Mommy's aunt, uncle and cousins.)  Cole got lots of hugs from Cousin Andrea!  3/31/2013.

Video Catch-Up: St. Patty's Day Pancakes

What better way to celebrate our pretty much non-existent Irish heritage?  3/17/2013.

The Perks of Living in Our Neighborhood

Construction trucks NEXT TO OUR HOUSE!  3/30/2013.

Twenty Three Months Old!

For this picture, Cole insisted that Guido the Orangutan wear the silly red hat.  And Mommy has learned by now to choose her battles.  This was a could-have-been battle she chose not to fight.

Which is probably why Cole is smiling in this picture.  Behind the thumb-in-mouth, that is.  (Another battle not fought ... yet.)

So anyhow, Cole is twenty three months old.  As in, almost two years old.  But not quite.  This month, Cole has begun to do this super-adorable thing were he waves his hands as if he's sprinkling water over us.  The first time he did this, we asked what he was doing, and he responded, "Throwing love."  It's been a recurring thing since, and we love it.

Cole also really enjoys going to the Museum of Science and Nature, which is conveniently located pretty close to our house.  He's been loving the dinosaur skeletons, among other neat exhibits. One of his favorite things at the Museum is an evolution computer game where you try and catch butterflies with different traits, which affects the traits of the next generation of butterflies (that you also try to catch, which affects the traits of the next generation, and so on and so on and so on).  He totally understands evolution now.

We have had beautiful weather this month, and then snow.  And good former Minnesotans as we are, we have thoroughly enjoyed both.  (But mostly the nice, sunny days.  Which invariably follow the snowy days, which has been a lovely change from Minnesota weather.)  3/21/2013.

Ready, Set, Go!

Quite easily distracted from training.  3/11/2013.

More Googers

Cole knows when he wants more googers.  He also knows when he's all done.  Also, never mind the Cubs shirt.  It was a gift from Bobpa.  3/8/2013.

Snowy Walk

All bundled up for a walk in the snow with Daddy!  3/9/2013.

Hormel Hot Dog Song

Cole helps Daddy with the Hormel Hot Dog Row of Fame song by singing the "bah-bumbum-bums" (usually shortened to "bah-bum").  And then he gets distracted.  2/26/2013.

Snow Ball

One of our favorite things about Denver:  it snows one day, it's gone the next!  2/21/2013.

Twenty Two Months Old!

Is this picture a sign of what we have ahead of us?  Terrible Twos?  Nah....

At twenty-two months, Cole still sounds like a little Austrian boy.  Our new favorite is his use of "Yah!" instead of "Yes" or "Yeah."

New favorites include his "basketball pants," the Hormel Hot Dog Song, and saying "I want" all of the time.  (Sounds more like "eena.")

Cole is using full sentences more and more, including in the following adorable exchange with Daddy:
Cole:  "Eena fwy away.  Ina airpane."
Daddy:  "Where do you want to go?"
Cole:  "Up!"
(The kid loves airplanes.)

Cole also currently loves to playing games that involve falling down, including Ring Around the Rosie.  2/21/2013.

Dr. Love

Valentine's Day!  The shirt stains make it look like Dr. Love may have been called into surgery.  2/15/2013.

Silliness

He's a goofball, and we love it.  He also has a pretty bad case of dry skin/eczema this winter, as you can see in this picture, but it doesn't keep him down.  2/4/2013.

Twenty One Months Old!

So admittedly I'm writing this way after the fact of Cole's 21-month anniversary as a little person, and the downsides to my failure of keep this up become remarkably obvious, as recall is not great after a year or so.  Luckily, this mom took some notes:

At twenty-one months old, Cole continues to add to his ever-growing vocabulary, and makes us giggle from time to time with his funny pronunciations.  Chris sometimes says he was obviously supposed to be born in Germany or Austria, as he has this adorable little "accent."  Some of our favorites at this time are "peanut baaater" and "teeter taaaater."  He also enjoys numbers and can count to 12 -- sometimes on his own, sometimes with a little help.

Cole still attends Family Flex daycare and has moved up to the "Meadow" room at school.  He loves his teachers and his friends, as do Mommy and Daddy.  We feel blessed to have found him such a nice place to play and learn while we have to be away at work.

Of course, he's a toddler, and with this age come some bumps.  Currently, he is very "flaily" and often swings his arms destructively, and he sometimes hits.  We're working on that.

This month, Cole had the extreme pleasure of riding in Auntie Chelsey's Jeep, which was a BIG deal to him.  He talked about the experience for weeks afterwards, and for a long time would bring up the Jeep at any mention of Chelsey.

Cole is obsessed with fire hydrants and points them out to us whenever he spots one.

He also had his first "balloon incident" this month -- and it wasn't even his balloon!  He saw a child lose a helium balloon to the wind and skies and became very distressed for the child and balloon.  This is another incident he continued to discuss long after the fact, continually explaining to us that it went way, way, way, way up high and far away.

And, of course, at the beginning of this lovely month in Cole's life, we enjoyed a wonderful Christmas with Nana and Opa, Chelsey and the Dake family.  Our little guy is spoiled with love and toys.  1/21/2013.

Smoovie

(A/k/a smoothie.)  A most delicious treat.  1/27/2013.

Homemade Play Dough

Lucky for Mommy, it was easy to make, as interest lasted for, oh, about ten minutes and mostly involved pitching it across the room.  Guess that's what I get for rolling it into little balls at his request.  1/26/2013.

I Left the Room for One Minute And ...

Pint-sized tornado!  1/26/2013.

Good Morning, Construction Site!

One of Cole's favorite pastimes is to watch the new homes go up in our neighborhood.  For a few months, we enjoyed(?) the luxury of box seats.  On this very special day, we saw excavators, loaders, AND dump trucks.  (Cole of course knows the names of all the trucks and reminds us when we forget.)  1/19/2013.

Cousin Book Time

Book time with Colin and Daddy!  1/13/2013.

Egg Hair

Because eggs make hair shiny and soft.  1/13/13.

Rose Bowl Parade!

While Daddy was off at the real thing, we had our own little Rose Bowl parade to ring in the new year.  To be perfectly honest, Cole didn't want to take the Twins jersey off to reveal the Stanford tee, but I talked him into it for Dad's sake.  In further honesty, I am not positive what team Stanford played and whether they won.  Wisconsin?  For a Stanford win?  No matter -- Daddy will remember for years to come.  1/1/2013.

What Do You Mean It's Not Baseball Season?

Cole got this work of jersey art for Christmas and, of course, was very excited to sport it, despite being in the wrong sports season.  1/1/2013.

New Year Baby

Enjoyed a lovely visit from the Loecken family before the New Year.  Cole loved rocking Baby Carter.  12/31/12.

Score!

Cole got this basketball hoop and ball for Christmas.  A favorite then, a favorite now.  Good buy, Mommy.  12/25/12.

Christmastime Reading with Nana

Reading "Chocolate Moose for Greedy Goose" with Nana.  One of Cole's very favorite activities.  12/23/12.

Momma Plays Catch-Up (aka What Else is New?)

So, we are very, very behind on the blog.  Life takes over, things fall to the wayside, surprise, surprise.  But I'm going to fix that.  At least a little.  So here goes.  Looking back from today, which is 3/26/2014...
